Jeju's Best Aewol Cafes — Haejigae, The Black & High End Compared
Follow the Aewol Bukseo-gil coastal path on Jeju's western shore and three cafes appear side by side — thatched parasols, basalt rock, and the sea stretching out in front of them. Same stretch of coastline, same shared car park, completely different worlds inside.
Haejigae, Haejigae The Black, High End Jeju. Different names, different moods — but they sit so close together that walking from one end to the other takes barely a minute. If you're planning a trip to western Jeju, there's no need to search each one separately. Here's everything you need to compare them and choose — or just do all three.
As of May 2026, the combined review count across all three (Naver visitors + blog posts) tops 24,000: Haejigae 11,748 · High End Jeju 12,030 · The Black 696 — impressive for a cafe that only opened in late January 2026. I visited all three on the same day. Here's the honest breakdown.
Before You Choose — What All Three Have in Common
| π Address | Haejigae No. 52 / The Black No. 54 / High End No. 56, Aewol Bukseo-gil, Jeju |
| π Parking | Shared lot for all three · Free for 2 hours, paid after |
| π View | Same western Jeju coastline · thatched parasols + palm trees |
| π Pets | Not allowed at any of the three (confirmed on-site) |
| π Distance | Haejigae → High End: about 1 minute on foot |
All three face the sea through floor-to-ceiling windows, and all have outdoor low-floor decks under thatched parasols. The view from outside looks almost identical. The differences begin the moment you step inside.
① Haejigae — Bakery, Jeju Warmth & Sunset
Hours: 09:00–21:00 · Aewol Bukseo-gil 52 · π No pets
Haejigae (ν΄μ§κ°) means "the place where the sun sets." The name tells you everything about the intent. Floor-to-ceiling windows face the western sea directly, and a rooftop terrace combines with outdoor seating to capture the moment the sky turns orange. When the evening light floods in, the interior transforms completely — warm light mixing with the glow off the water, traditional lattice screens framing the view.
Of the three, Haejigae has the strongest sense of having been designed around that one particular hour. Korean hanji lanterns, bamboo and rattan textures, dark stone floors — the interior feels rooted in Jeju's aesthetic tradition while staying modern enough to photograph beautifully. If you're here for sunset, this is the one.

| Also Popular | Basalt bread (sells out fast) · Garlic baguette · Green tea red bean roll · Apple bread |
| Gift Item | Noeul Sand (Sunset Sand) — gift-boxed, very popular as a Jeju souvenir |
Best for: Sunset views · Jeju-style artisan bakery · Interior/atmosphere lovers · Anyone looking for a Jeju souvenir
② Haejigae The Black — Coffee, Atmosphere & Drinks by the Sea
Hours: 365 days · 24 hours (opened late January 2026; 24hr since March 1) · Aewol Bukseo-gil 54 · π No pets
Same family, opposite concept. Black grid screens, dark-toned low tables, low lighting — The Black is calmer and more interior-focused than its neighbour. Where Haejigae feels warm and energetic, The Black leans quiet and composed. It's the kind of space where you can actually hear yourself think.
Two things that set The Black apart from the other two:
First, it's open 24 hours, 365 days. There are very few places in Jeju where you can sit by the sea at 2 AM. The Black is one of them.
Second — and this is the big one — it's the only one of the three that sells alcohol. Highball, makgeolli, beer, Hallasan 16, Ilpum Jinro. Watching the sea with a drink in hand is an experience you can only have here.
☕ Drinks
| Americano | ₩9,000 |
| Ssanghwa Ricano | ₩10,000 (signature — herbal coffee blend) |
| Stone Wall Black Sesame Latte | ₩10,000 (signature) |
| Alcohol | From ₩12,000 · Highball · Makgeolli · Beer · Hallasan 16 · Ilpum Jinro |
π° Bakery — Premium Dessert Showcase
The display case stands out against the dark interior — a dramatic contrast that works surprisingly well. Slice cakes, tarts, and The Black's own signature items sit front and centre.
| Signature | Black salt bread · Black croissant · Dolhareubang bread (Jeju stone guardian shaped) |
| Slice Cakes | Strawberry cake · Fruit tart · Tiramisu and more |
| Other | CanelΓ© · Croquembouche-style pastries · Premium desserts |
Best for: Quiet atmosphere · Evening or late-night visits · Drinking by the sea · Pre-sunrise arrivals
③ High End Jeju — The Most Bakery Variety & Resort Vibes
Hours: 10:00–20:00 (L.O. 19:20) · Aewol Bukseo-gil 56 · π No pets
High End feels like a different country. Cream and beige tones, round rattan sofas, stone floors — somewhere between a European coastal resort and a Maldives-style lounge. Step outside and you'll find the single biggest difference from the other two: High End is the only one with a white sand beach in front of it. Same coastline, but this stretch has been laid with sand, and it completely changes the mood.
☕ Drinks
| Americano | ₩8,000 |
| Picnic Ganpa Parfait | ₩13,000 ⭐ BEST |
| Hallabong Smoothie | ₩9,000 |
π₯ Bakery — The Widest Selection of the Three
High End has the most variety of any of the three, and notably the largest selection of slice cakes. The dessert case is the most impressive to look at.
| ⭐ Most Popular | Hallabong bread — cute tangerine shape, biggest seller |
| Slice Cakes | Strawberry cake · Tiramisu · Fruit tart · Tanghulu cake and more |
| Other | Mentaiko salt bread · Sandwiches · Menu available in Korean, Chinese & English |
Best for: Bakery and slice cake lovers · White sand beach atmosphere · European resort vibes

Honest Verdict
Three cafes sharing one car park sounds like it might mean one is clearly better and the other two are just hanging on. That's not the case here. Each has a genuinely distinct identity — Haejigae earns its reputation as the most photogenic and well-rounded, The Black is the best after-dark option in western Jeju, and High End is the place to go if dessert selection matters most to you. The white sand beach alone gives it a leg up that neither of the others can match outdoors.
The 2-hour free parking makes the decision simple: park once, visit all three, and decide what to order at each stop.
